Holding Companies

Detailed below are the steps in control to use a holding company.

  1. Create a company to be used as a Holding Company. For the rest of this documentation 'HoldCo' will be the assumed name of the company. You may choose another name.

  2. Create a normal company. For the sake of this documentation it will be referred to as 'CreComp'. During its creation through coaad, find the following option

     Associated Stock Holding Company:
and place the name of the holding company in there. eg:
     Associated Stock Holding Company: HoldCo

You may wish to nominate a default retail/wholesale location in the Holding company, you can do this now. Find the following options in coaad, and set them to an appropriate branch in HoldCo. eg:

Default Wholesale Location in Stock Holding Company : WholesaleBr
Default Retail Location in Stock Holding Company : RetailBr

where WholesaleBr and RetailBr are valid branches in HoldCo. If you want there to be a mark-up on transfers between HoldCo and CreComp you will need to set the following option. eg:

     Inter-Company Mark-up : 15
  3. Now you will need to make HoldCo a supplier in CreComp. To do that run craad in CreComp eg:

     conset -c CreComp
     craad
     1 Add
     Supplier code : HoldCo
and enter other details as required.
  4. Now you must make CreComp a customer of HoldCo, perform the following making appopriate changes.

     conset -c HoldCo
     draad
     1. Add
     customer code: CreComp
    and other details as required.

Your company (CreComp) is now configured to use a holding company. Now you need to configure individual stock, to tell control that they are from the holding company. To do that run staad, and either add or modify stock and find the following option.

stock in holding co. (y/n) : Y

and set it to 'Y'.

After this all sales and returns of the modified stock will generate a background transfer from/to the holding company and then perform the requested action.

If unsure that this is working perform the following

postal
sieat
"Make a sale of stock that is configured to be in the holding company"
unposted

if the last command displays the following

Unposted Stk Receipt(1) transactions for company DUAN
Unposted SALE(21) transactions for company DUAN

then it is working, if not review the instructions, and seek help if needed.
