Setting Up a VNC Terminal

At each terminal, you will need to:

  1. For Windows98 computers, download http://www.crecom.com.au/demo/attvnc-3.3.3_R2.exe

Otherwise, download the VNC Viewer from http://www.creativecomputing.com.au/demo/vnc-4_1_2-x86_win32_viewer.exe

  1. Open the zip file and extract the contents to C:\Program Files\RealVNC\
  2. Run vnc-4_1_2-x86_win32_viewer.exe
  3. In the VNC server input box, type <Server-IP>:X, where X is either 6,7,8,etc. Make sure that each terminal is assigned a different value for X.

  4. Click on the "Options" button.
  5. Choose "Scale to windows size"
  6. At the bottom of the screen, set the Menu Key to F12
  7. Press OK
  8. Press Connect
  9. Type in the VNC password
  10. They should now be connected.
  11. In the top left-hand corner of the window, there should be an icon with the word VNC. Click on it to reveal a drop-down menu.
  12. Select "Options". It should be near the bottom of the menu.
  13. Go to the tab called "Inputs"
  14. Change the "Menu Key" to F12
  15. Go to the tab called "Load/Save"
  16. Press "Save As"
  17. Change the name of the file to CONTROL and save it to C:\Program Files\RealVNC\
  18. When asked about saving the password, select YES.
  19. Create a shortcut on the desktop that runs
    "C:\Program Files\RealVNC\vnc-4_1_2-x86_win32_viewer.exe -config C:\Program Files\RealVNC\CONTROL.vnc 
  20. Change the picture to be the "Blue C" icon. You get get it from www.crecom.com.au/ccicon.ico
  21. Name the shortcut to Control
  22. To close the VNC window, click on the close button in the top right-hand corner.
  23. To re-connect to CONTROL, double-click on the icon named Control

NOTE: This only sets up the terminal to connect to the CONTROL server via VNC. It does not setup printers or any peripherals.
