Adding CONTROL and operating system user

Overview

The following document takes into account the process of adding a user to the Operating System (OS) and creating an Employee record for Control.

It is important to know the difference between the OS and Control. Control is an application within the OS. Much like how Word is an application within the Windows Operating System. The password created below will be for the operations of the OS, but the username for the OS and Control will be the same. If the user needs access to remote systems, they must be added to the OS for the ability of remotely connecting. At the same time, this will create a Control user on that remote system.

Starting from Control

On the main menu select System Administrator Utilities , this requires you to specfiy a predetermined password to continue. Upon successfully entering the password select Add Employees to System . From here you will leave the standard CONTROL menu's and be prompted with the following text:

Adding a new user to the System
Current ID: markt, Desired ID: root
Verifying permission...
Password:

This field also requires a password to be entered, this is different to that of the password previously specified. Provided that the correct password was specified the following output will display:

WARNING if the new user's directory exists, it will be recreated

Company: GAMART         GRAPHIC ART MART PTY LTD
User Name is the name that a user uses to log in to the system with
the Name should be all lower case characters and a maximum of 8 characters
User name:

Firstly ensure that the Company field is correct. Here the system is asking for a User name also known as a login or login name. This information is used along with a password when the user is connecting to the CONTROL system. User name must not be greater than 8 characters long. For this example we will create a login for John Smith with the username john .

Please Enter Full name of user "john"

Simply enter John's fullname: John Smith . Upon completion you'll be regard to specify a menu.

Which Menu do you wish "john" to start with:

The most common menu to start with is cntrl , though this may be changed in Employee File Maintenance at a later time.

The above questions are mandatory and must be provided with a y or n responce. They do not have an default option.

Before completion of account creation an overview is provided with username and starting menu. Again y or n must be entered.

Passwords

Upon completion you'll prompted with the following information:

Enter Temporary Password for user "john"
Setting password for user: john
Password change is forced for john.
                Choose password
You can choose whether you pick a password,
or have the system create one for you.
        1. Pick a password
        2. Pronounceable password will be generated for you
Enter choice (default is 1):

The default option 1 is recommended.

Upon typing a password, it will not be visible on the screen. To confirm, you will be required to confirm the password a second time to ensure against any possible typographical errors. Upon completion your be provided with a brief success menu and brought back to the Control menu's.
